The opening event in the IRON in The Soul Festival, which
takes place June 8th to 11th in venues in Cullercoats is Ruth Henderson’s short
play Those in Peril—a Cullercoats Tragedy, based on a
real-life Cullercoats fishing boat disaster in which (among others) four
members of the local Lisle family were drowned. The piece also involves music from The Keelers
and choreography from The Newcastle Cloggies. Although part of the IRON Press festival, this
will be a Cloud Nine event, directed by Peter Mortimer. Cloud Nine actors Diane Legg and Ann Ridley are
taking on the roles of the two fishwives, with two youth theatre actors taking
the other two roles. We expect a full
house for this high profile event, which takes place in the concert room of The
Crescent Club on June 8th, so book early!

Mortimer and directed by Neil Armstrong will play at The Exchange, North
Shields during the week beginning October 16th, the exact number of performances to be

The play is a contemporary satire-a four hander of two
well-to-do couples in London set during a celebratory dinner party after the
yet another profitable killing in the property market by the two men. Their
indulgences are interrupted by an unexpected caller at the door. Though
dismissed several times, the down-and-out always returns, eventually with
unexpected and alarming consequences.
Following on from the success of the scratch theatre night at
The Exchange, North Shields in December where three excerpts from new plays in
progress were presented, there will be another Cloud Nine Scratch Theatre Night
in November. We are currently looking
for new work to perform at this. There
is no set theme but the piece must be no longer than 15 minutes and involve no
more than four actors and a minimal set.
If you’re interested please email an outline of your proposed work (no
more than 250 words) to Peter Mortimer at email@example.com.
